A young family wanted to combine the narrow kitchen of their 1930s home with the living room and extend towards the garden. Budget and timing were decisive because the work had to be complete before their second child arrived.
The design stayed within the permit-free rules: three metres deep in the rear plot, with a flat roof and rooflight. Construction could therefore start six weeks after signing, while full structural calculations were still prepared for the steel frames replacing the rear wall.
In three weeks the house gained 16 m², a two-metre rooflight and steel pivot doors to the garden. The timber floor continues into the extension and underfloor heating completes the new space.
