A family with three children faced the classic choice: move or build upwards. Their 1970s terraced house had a flat roof that offered a good basis for an additional floor.
Our engineer first checked the foundation and load-bearing walls. The timber-frame design adds 38 m² with two bedrooms, a bathroom and a permanent staircase aligned with the existing stairwell. A 3D shadow study supported the permit application.
The elements were craned into place and made weatherproof in two days. Five weeks of interior work followed, including Rc 6.3 insulation, triple glazing and a complete bathroom. The family remained at home throughout.
